Cell Division 2016
This section is a continuation of Chapter 3, but has A-LOT of important content, I isolate this section for students to focus on the material.
In this section students will identify the events that take place during the three stages of the Cell Cycle, or cell division.
We start with Interphase, the stage the cell prepares to divide, Mitosis: Prophase, Mitosis: Metaphase, Mitosis: Anaphase, and Mitosis: Telophase where the chromatin condense, line up, separate, and form new nuclear envelopes. Lastly, Cytokinesis is the stage where two new daughter cells are formed.
Students will complete a variety of activities to reinforce these stages. First, students will create a model of the six steps of cell division with pipe cleaners / chenille sticks (I will provide) to practice the movements of the chromatin. Next, students will create a flip booklet of the stages to map out how the chromosomes are moving from stage to stage. Finally, students will use Garage Band to create cell division raps where each verse will cover a stage of the cell cycle.
