Grade Cells Ch2 Part2
Chapter 2 Part 2 consists of Section 3 Discovering Cells pg.50-57 and Section 4 Looking Inside Cells pg. 60-67.
Section 3 - Throughout Section 3 we will learn about Robert Hooke and Anton van Leeuwenhoek, the early scientists that identified cells and learned many things about living things under a microscope. We will also examine the contributions of Schleiden, Schwann, and Virchow that eventually lead to the development of the cell theory.
Section 4 - During Section 4 students will use illustrations and 3-D models to identify the structure and functions of the organelles of animal and plant cells including: cell membrane, nucleus, nuclear membrane, chromatin, nucleolus, mitocondria, cytoplasm, endoplasmic reticulum, ribosomes, golgi bodies, chloroplasts, vacuoles, and lysosomes. Students will also learn how these organelles work together to preform their functions.
Cell Lab - During this chapter students will use a microscope to observe their own cheek cells to help in identifying parts of an animal cell, and students will also observe an onion cell under the microscope to identify distinguishing features of plant cells.
